Chilean Miners

In 2010 thirty-three men, trapped 700 meters (2,300 ft) underground and 5 kilometers (3 mi) from the mine's entrance were rescued after 69 days. Prayer went up and down. "When we prayed," said one miner, "we didn't pray to get rescued; we prayed for the people outside not to abandon us." Another said God was the 34 miner. More.

I waited patiently for the LORD;
he turned to me and heard my cry.
He lifted me out of the slimy pit,
out of the mud and mire;
he set my feet on a rock
and gave me a firm place to stand.
He put a new song in my mouth,
a hymn of praise to our God.
Many will see and fear
and put their trust in the LORD.
Blessed is the man
who makes the LORD his trust,
who does not look to the proud,
to those who turn aside to false gods.
Many, O LORD my God,
are the wonders you have done.
The things you planned for us
no one can recount to you;
were I to speak and tell of them,
they would be too many to declare. [Psalm 40: 1-5]
There is a time for everything,
and a season for every activity under heaven:
a time to weep and a time to laugh,
a time to mourn and a time to dance,
a time to search and a time to give up, [Ecclesiastes 3]

“The people who walk in darkness will see a great light;
Those who live in a dark land, the light will shine on them.” [Isaiah 9:12]

Jesus said, “I am the light of the world.
Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness,
but will have the light of life." [John 8:12]
The light shines in the darkness,
and the darkness has not overcome it” [John 1:5]

For God, who said, "Light shall shine out of darkness," is
the One who has shone in our hearts
to give the Light of the knowledge of the glory of God
in the face of Christ.” [2 Corinthians 4:6]

For he has rescued us
from the dominion of darkness
and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, [Colosians 1:13]

"This is the judgment, that the Light has come into the world,
and men loved the darkness rather than the Light,
for their deeds were evil.
For everyone who does evil hates the Light,
and does not come to the Light
for fear that his deeds will be exposed.” [John 3:19-20]
Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name,
he gave the right to become children of God—
children born not of natural descent,
nor of human decision or a husband's will, but born of God.
The Word became flesh
and made his dwelling among us.
We have seen his glory,
the glory of the One and Only,
who came from the Father, full of grace and truth. [John 1:12-14]
